"Japanese Quince" Small Rose Quince
The small rose quince is a hardy shrub that bursts into bloom in May, covering its branches with delicate flowers. By September and October, the fruit ripens, turning from green to a warm yellow.
It is a late-harvest fruit; when fully mature, it releases a wonderfully aromatic fragrance, though the flesh remains firm. When you cut the fruit open, the seeds should be a deep dark brown - one of the sure signs that it is ready.
Once the harvest was finished, the next question naturally arose: what to do with it all? Under Scandi Food, you’ll find a recipe for this surprisingly tough and tart fruit. Don’t be fooled by its hardness and sharp taste - prepared the right way, it becomes wonderfully delicious. Give it a try!
